A local collector rolled in last spring with a '68 Chevelle that had been sitting in a heated shop for three years. New battery, fresh fuel, and it still wouldn't run right above an idle. Two hours on the bench with the Holley off the manifold, a stuck power valve and a glazed accelerator pump diaphragm later, and the car was making the kind of noise it was built to make. That is what classic car repair Jerome Idaho looks like at our shop — old-school diagnosis, the right tools, and somebody under the hood who actually remembers how these things work.
Modern shops are set up for OBD-II, scan tools, and module programming. None of that helps when the problem is a worn-out points set, a leaking carburetor float, or timing that drifted three degrees over the winter. Pre-1990 vehicles need different hands and different instincts, and that is a big part of what we do.
What we work on
- Classic American cars — Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs, Novas, Impalas, Chargers, and the rest. Tune, timing, carburetor, ignition, brakes, cooling, charging.
- Hot rods and street builds — small-block and big-block Chevys, Ford 302 and 351, Mopar small and big blocks. Carburetor tuning, ignition curves, header and exhaust work.
- Older trucks — square-body Chevys and GMCs, OBS Ford trucks, Dodge D-series, older one-tons that work for a living. Many of these are still daily drivers around here.
- Carburetor service — Holley, Edelbrock, Quadrajet, Autolite, Stromberg. Rebuild, tune, jet for elevation, diagnose tuning faults.
- Ignition — points and condenser, electronic conversions, distributor rebuild, advance curves, plug and wire diagnosis on older systems.
- Fluids, brakes, and cooling — drum brake work, master cylinder rebuilds, radiator and cooling system service, fluid swaps with the right specs for older engines.
Magic Valley classics and the local car scene
Southern Idaho has a real classic car community. The cruise nights in Twin Falls, the shows that come through the Magic Valley in summer, and the steady stream of restoration projects in private shops around Jerome, Buhl, and Gooding all keep us busy. A lot of the cars we work on belong to second-generation owners — the truck a father drove, the car a grandfather built, the project that has been waiting in a garage for a decade. We treat them that way.
We also see hot rods built on modern crate engines where the owner wants old-school looks with new reliability. Whether you are running a points distributor on a 327 or an EFI swap on a 350, we can help tune it, troubleshoot it, and keep it running.
Fuel system, fabrication, and the rest
Classic fuel systems often need more than a carburetor rebuild — steel lines, sending units, tank cleaning or replacement, mechanical fuel pumps. The full rundown is on our fuel system repair page. Patch panels, exhaust fabrication, custom brackets, and structural metal work fall under custom fabrication and welding. For the broader list of what we work on, see vehicles we service.
Honest work on cars that matter
Classic and vintage work is patient work. We diagnose first, send a written estimate before we order parts, and call you if we find something else when we are in there. We are not going to tell you the car needs a full restoration when it needs a tune-up. And if the job is bigger than what makes sense to fix, we'll be straight with you about that too.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you actually work on points-and-condenser ignitions?
Yes. Setting points, dwell, and timing on older engines is part of regular work in our shop. We also retrofit electronic ignitions like Pertronix when an owner wants more reliability without changing the look under the hood.
Can you rebuild a Holley, Edelbrock, Quadrajet, or Stromberg?
Yes. We rebuild and tune most common carburetors used on American classics and hot rods. We also help diagnose tuning problems — vacuum leaks, accelerator pump issues, jetting for elevation here in southern Idaho.
Will you work on a project that's only partially together?
Usually yes. Bring the parts, bring the documentation if you have it, and we'll figure out where it stands. We can get a stalled project running again or take a finished build through final tuning.
Do you do welding and metal work for restorations?
Yes — see our custom fabrication and welding page. Patch panels, floor work, exhaust fabrication, and structural repair are part of what we do.
Can you get my classic ready for a car show?
We can. Final tune, timing, carburetor cleanup, fluid services, brake bleed, and the small details that make a car drive right on show day. Tell us the date when you book.
