"Tune-up" doesn't mean what it did 30 years ago — there are no points or timing to set anymore. But ignition components, filters, and intake systems still wear out, and a proper modern tune-up brings the engine back to like-new running condition.

What we do

  • Spark plug replacement — OEM or upgraded copper/iridium as spec'd.
  • Ignition coil testing and replacement.
  • Plug wire replacement on older engines.
  • Air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, PCV valve.
  • Throttle body and intake tract cleaning.
  • Fuel injection cleaning service.
  • Pre- and post-tune diagnostic scan and misfire monitor check.
  • Diesel tune-up: injector balance, glow plug test, CCV filter, fuel filter.

Common symptoms a tune-up fixes

  • Rough idle or stalling at stoplights.
  • Misfire codes (P0300, P0301–P0308).
  • Hesitation on acceleration.
  • Drop in fuel economy.
  • Hard cold starts.
  • Check-engine light tied to ignition or fuel trim.

Not sure if it's a tune-up or something deeper? Start with diagnostics — we'll find the root cause before spending money on parts that don't fix it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does a modern car need a tune-up?

Most modern engines go 60,000–100,000 miles between spark plug changes. But coils, filters, throttle bodies, and PCV systems often need attention sooner. We pull your OEM schedule and show you what's due.

What does a tune-up include?

Typically: spark plugs, ignition coils as needed, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter (if serviceable), throttle body and intake cleaning, PCV valve, and a full diagnostic scan. We tailor it to your vehicle.

Will a tune-up fix rough idle or poor mileage?

Often, yes. Worn plugs, a weak coil, a dirty throttle body, or a partially clogged injector all cause those symptoms. A diagnostic tells us which one before we start replacing parts.

Do diesels need tune-ups?

Diesels don't have spark plugs, but they do need injector balance checks, fuel filter replacement, air filter, glow plug testing, and CCV filter service. We treat that as a diesel tune-up.

How long does a tune-up take?

Most 4- and 6-cylinder gas engines: a couple hours. V8s with coil-on-plug or rear-bank plugs (looking at you, transverse-mounted V6s): longer. We'll quote real time before we start.
